We are thrilled to pay tribute to our October Associate Spotlight, Valerie Moring. Moring is our Cybersecurity and Healthcare Consulting Team Leader who wears many hats and manages to fill all her roles with the utmost grace and professionalism,
The comings and goings of staff are a part of every dynamic organization; therefore, it can be challenging to get to know our coworkers better as people. We have to be mindful that our company culture thrives on our exceptional people and their outstanding technical skills. As such, we are finding that our periodic interviews with associates allow us to acknowledge and celebrate the beautiful life stories, extraordinary professional accomplishments, and even the little quirks that make us uniquely beautiful human beings.
We hope you find each Edafio associate story as inspiring as we do in gathering and sharing them.
Now let’s get better acquainted with Valerie!
How long have you worked at Edafio, and what does your job entail?
I have been with Edafio for five years now as the Healthcare/Cybersecurity Lead. I help our healthcare clients assess and plan for improved patient outcomes and provide reporting guidance on the quality of care they provide to their insurance companies which ultimately positively impacts their revenue stream. I also assist with security risk assessments (SRAs), where we focus on assessing our clients’ environments from a HIPAA compliance perspective.
What do you like most about your job?
Helping clients understand something complex and feeling that I am making their job a bit easier due to my healthcare consulting efforts is one thing.
As a Team Leader, I enjoy providing valuable leadership, guidance, and helpful feedback to each of our clients and individuals on my team.
What is the best career lesson you’ve learned so far?
Don’t burn any professional bridges. If you are unhappy or unsatisfied with your current role, make yourself “available to the industry” and look for what will bring you fulfillment in the workplace. Two different companies I had left professionally over my career asked me to come BACK to work for them.
What’s a fun fact about you that many people may not know?
I completed three Little Rock Marathons with a record of 4 hours and 28 minutes. I am now qualified and registered for the Pikes Peak Ascent (13.1 miles straight up) that I plan to complete in 2023.
What is your Crystal Knows Type?
Planner Sc (patient, considerate, modest). I have retaken the assessment and think there might still be a few small things that may be off slightly. I certainly do value stability and planning!
What would you do (for a career) if you weren’t doing this?
I probably would not return to the cardiac catheterization laboratory in a hospital (although I could since I still hold my RT license). Instead, I would look for an opportunity in the medical device industry. (Assisting with surgeries like pacemakers or other cardiac-type devices)
What do you like to do when you aren’t working?
I don’t like sitting still for long, so most likely, you will find me running/walking/cycling; attending a workout class early in the morning; traveling to watch my daughters competing (Macy), cheering for Sheridan High School or her CCU team; going to college track meets to watch (Mackenzie) pole vaulting for MSSU; playing with my dogs outside; wake surfing on lake Degray; attending my local church/helping out with TNT AWANA’s on Wednesday nights.
What is the one thing you can’t live without?
My Bible and great running shoes.I enjoy the Hoka Rincon 3 with custom inserts from Fleet Feet.
Everyone at Edafio has a story about why they joined the team. What’s yours?
Kenny has told the story a few times, but he tried recruiting me to Edafio for, I believe it was for three years. When I was with my former employer, I worked with him while he was at an Edafio client site. I kept telling him I wanted to learn and do more with the work and contracts and didn’t feel it was the right timing. At the last lunch, the timing and opportunity seemed like a perfect fit for the professional growth that I was seeking. After an interview with Keith/Kenny, consulting with my husband and praying about it, I decided to jump in feet first! (remember, I don’t like sitting still, and I am a planner ????)
Edafio is always looking for exceptional candidates to join our team. For an opportunity to work with folks like Valerie, visit our careers page to learn more.
